NAUGHTY OR SPICE

For when you want an Old Fashioned but it's cold outside

The Old Fashioned is the granddaddy of cocktails for a reason. It's simple, delicious, and drinkable year round. I love my Old Fashioned as much in the winter as the summer but the winter offers opportunities to incorporate a few new flavors. The homemade winter spice syrup incorporates flavors of molasses, cinnamon, cloves, and allspice for a wonderfully seasonal take on a classic favorite. Perfcect for fireside sipping.

NAUGHTY OR SPICE

Ingredients

2 oz. Bourbon (preferably wheated bourbon)
¼ oz Winter Spice Syrup*
3 dashes of Orange Bitters
2 dashes of Angostura or Walnut bitters
Cinnamon Stick and Orange Peel

Instructions

Combine all ingredients in rocks glass with a large ice cube. Stir to combine. Garnish with a charred orange peel and cinnamon stick.

*Winter Spice Syrup - Combine equal parts water and demerara sugar. Bring to low boil. Reduce heat to low. Add cinnamon sticks, cloves and allspice berries if desired. Allow to steep for 20 minutes and then chill.
