HAPPY BASTARD

The Suffering Bastard meets the Tom Collin's in this Brooklyn riff
Whiskey_Sour.jpg

Sometimes I look up recipes and the name stands out enough to make me want to make the drink; and with a name like Happy Bastard, how could I not? This is a riff on the Suffering Bastard from Brooklyn's Fanny Chu that has unexpected turns of flavor with every sip.

She subs ginger beer for tonic water, lemon for lime, and adds elderflower liqueur for a complex, spicy, yet cooling refreshment. This is one you could sip on for a while and still discover new flavors. I love it when flavors in a drink marry well together yet still stand out. This cocktail definitely fits the bill.

HAPPY BASTARD

Ingredients

1 oz. Gin
1 oz. Brandy
¼ oz. St. Germain
½ oz. Ginger syrup
½ oz. Lemon juice
1 ½ oz. Tonic (preferably cucumber tonic)

Instructions

Add all ingredients except tonic to shaker with ice. Shake until chilled and strain into a Collins glass over ice. Top with tonic water and garnish with a lemon wheel.
