PINING FOR YOU

If a pine tree could be a drink, this would be it
Whiskey_Sour.jpg

Something about alpine drinks just makes me think of relaxing at a ski resort. The first thing I think of at a ski resort outside of the snow is pine trees which was the inspiration behind this drink. After making a fir needle infused vodka, the resulting flavor was one of a kind. Slightly astringent, but herbal and smelling just like an evergreen forest. Combining this with Braulio, an alpine amaro, accents the piney flavor of the vodka while adding a woodsy and complex herbal bitterness.

The Cocchi Americano and St. Germain combine to add just a touch of sweetness. This also adds some floral and fruit notes from both the elderflower in St. Germain and the peach and pear notes in the Cocchi. This is not a drink you will soon forget and one that changes in flavor and smell with each sip. Definitely worth the time and effort.

PINING FOR YOU

Ingredients

1 ½ oz. Douglas Fir infused vodka*
1 oz. Cocchi Americano
¾ oz. Braulio Amaro
¼ oz. St. Germain
1 oz. Club soda to top

Instructions

Add all ingredients to mixing  glass with ice and stir until chilled. Strain into collins glass with ice. Top with club soda and serve.

*Douglas Fir Infused Vodka: first you need 1 cup of fir needles. You can remove the fir needles from the branch by pinching the branch and pulling down opposite the direction of the needle growth. Once you have a cup wash over a fine mesh strainer. Combine needles with 2 cups of vodka in a jar. Place jar in fridge for at least 24 hours.
