HONSHU HARVEST
Yuzu is a new ingredient in the drink world. This cocktail is a good introduction.
I noticed a lot of lately calling for Yuzu juice so I finally broke down and bought some. The taste is somewhere between a mandarin and a grapefruit with a wonderful floral aroma. Yuzu is a staple of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese cooking as a flavoring agent for sauces, teas, and marmalade.
Yuzu is certainly tasty, albeit a bit strong so I offset the strong citrus taste with some earthiness and floral components. The Botanist Gin adds a touch of chamomile and spear mint while the oolong syrup provides a full-bodied spice and a bit of sweetness. The Sake creates a wonderful aroma of sakura blossoms that ties this whole drink together.
