One of the cornerstones of the cocktail renaissance
The Manhattan is one of the most enduring and beloved creations in cocktail canon. The Manhattan on its face is a spin on the Old Fashioned, but it has become a cocktail heavyweight in its own right over the last century. It's origins remain disputed, and although the tall tale of its creation for Winston Churchill's mother during an event at the Manhattan Club are likely not true, it's impossible to dispute this divine cocktail's history and staying power.
2 ½ oz. Rittenhouse Rye*
1 oz. Dolin Rouge vermouth
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Stir all ingredients with ice in mixing glass
Strain into a coupe and garnish with Luxardo cherries (optional).
*Try with a bourbon like Russell's Reserve 10 Year instead of rye.
