Cocktail of the Week: The Passionate Earl

Updated: Apr 22, 2019

With Easter just around the corner I'm looking forward to catching up with family. It's difficult to keep in touch when you live across the country from where you grew up, but Easter is always a time to come together, share stories, and enjoy the spring. This cocktail personifies a lot of that nostalgia for me. Spring gardens, relaxing evenings with loved ones, and a diverse range of stories. The Passionate Earl brings those flavors home with an earthy yet fruity vibe that's complex, new, but welcoming.

The celebrity here is the relationship between the passionfruit and the Earl Grey. Two ingredients you wouldn't expect to play together well but absolutely make a lasting impression.

1.5 oz. Earl Gray infused gin*

0.5 oz. St. Germain

0.75 oz. passionfruit syrup**

0.5 oz. lemon juice Egg white

Combine all ingredients in Boston shaker and shake dry. Add ice and shake again until well chilled. Strain into cocktail glass.

* Combine 2 cups London Dry gin in mason jar with 2 tbs. earl gray tea leaves. Seal, and place in fridge for 2 hours. Strain over cheesecloth.

** Combine 1 part water and 1 part sugar in sauce pot over stove. Bring to a simmer, reduce heat, and add 1 part passionfruit juice or pulp. Stir and steep for 20 minutes.
